According to new BlackBerry Limited statistics, 75% of enterprises worldwide are now using or are considering banning ChatGPT and other generative AI tools in the workplace.

Concerns about data security, privacy, and company reputation prompted 61% of those adopting or considering limits to declare that the measures are intended to be long-term or permanent. Unprotected applications pose a cybersecurity risk to their company’s IT system, according to 83% of respondents.

Despite their preference for outright prohibitions, the majority recognizes the potential for generative AI applications in the workplace to increase creativity (51%), efficiency (55%), and innovation (52%).

The majority of respondents (81%) continued to support the use of generative AI technology for cybersecurity defense, demonstrating that IT decision-makers do not want to be caught off guard and give hackers an advantage.

Shishir Singh, BlackBerry’s Chief Technology Officer for Cybersecurity, advises enterprises to explore generative AI technologies in the workplace with caution while remaining adaptable.

“Banning generative AI applications in the workplace can lead to the loss of a variety of potential business benefits,” he argues. BlackBerry, the leader in AI cybersecurity, innovates with enterprise-grade Generative AI, emphasizing value over hype and exercising caution with risky consumer Generative AI products.

As platforms evolve and regulations are implemented, organizational policies may contain flexibility. It is critical to have the right tools for administering, monitoring, and assuring the visibility of workplace apps.

According to the report, 74% of IT decision-makers believe that such limitations represent “excessive control” over company-owned and brought-your-own (BYO) devices, despite the fact that 80% believe that businesses have the right to limit the apps that employees use for work-related activities.

Unified endpoint management (UEM) provides CIOs and CISOs with the essential controls over which apps may connect to the corporate environment to ensure business security and user privacy.

UEM ensures company security and user privacy by containerizing corporate data. In an era where consumer-grade Generative AI and other unregulated apps are insecure, enterprises need an enterprise-grade UEM solution like BlackBerry UEM.
