Google has issued an apology for the inaccurate historical image representations in Gemini.

Google’s Gemini has been under fire for portraying certain white historical figures as people of color, such as the US Founding Fathers and German soldiers during the Nazi era.

Gemini has drawn a lot of criticism on X for producing false representations of historical events.

Google said that they are striving to rectify these kinds of misleading depictions as soon as possible about the improper portrayal of historical photographs.

Furthermore, according to Google, Gemini produces a diverse range of photographs of individuals, which is beneficial since people from all over the world have been using it. However, historical images have not been up to par.

Google started making the image generating capability available in the AI-driven program Gemini earlier this month.

It’s not the first time that racial bias and diversity have been issues for AI. About ten years prior, Google was forced to issue an apology when their photo app misrepresented a black couple as gorillas.

A study claims that Google does not produce those photos that it considered to be errors, yet it’s probable that it made an effort to increase variety by addressing generative AI’s long-standing deficiency in it.

Because the image generators are programmed to provide the finest images and text captions, preconceptions may occasionally be amplified by them.

Some of the critics and supporters of Gemini commented on X, pointing out that Gemini’s inconsistent nature should be challenged and that it’s sometimes a good idea to represent diversity.

It’s rather embarrassing, according to a different X user, to have Google Gemini recognize the existence of white individuals.

As of right now, Gemini will not produce photos of Vikings or German soldiers from the Nazi era.
